It is important to note that the areas in question comprise less than 1% of all of the GGRNA's lands and that these urban open spaces have been traditionally and primarily used for off-leash recreation for decades. We are not requesting that every area within the GGNRA remain available to off-leash recreation - just less than 1% of the lands within the GGNRA that have been traditionally off-leash havens for thousands of daily users.
Although the recent change in enforcement and policy is unfair and undemocratic because the NPS officials are changing the rules before the ANPR/rulemaking process is over, we are thankful they have decided to create a special-ruling to allow for off-leash recreation. This is a unique situation that requires careful consideration - these areas include many urban parks that San Franciscans have used for off-leash recreation for decades.
Stress that this is a huge quality of life issue for thousands of San Francisco and Bay Area residents who use the parks regularly for this fun and safe form of recreation.
URGENT: We need you to write letters in support of off-leash recreation today! Send in your comments about the many positive experiences you have had with dogs on GGNRA lands - feel free to send pictures and stories of your good experiences there. Remember to thank the NPS for honoring this nearly extinct, timeless and unique form of recreation in San Francisco's urban beaches and open spaces by deciding to create a special ruling in lieu of the 1976 Pet Policy.
